Illness, challenges, disability, These are all things that many of us are familiar with. I went through years of pain and depression, I was debilitated, I couldn’t work, I couldn’t eat, I was taking morphine daily, and I had serious surgeries. I now live with the constant reminders of that surgery. 

Today I live a life that is free, and everything I want it to be. 

Just over a decade ago I was diagnosed with crohn’s, a disease that has just started getting the attention it deserves, it is a silent, hidden, often debilitating disease. Looking at a person you would never know, but inside them there is a war raging. When I was diagnosed information about this disease was limited, they didn’t know why or where it came from, they didn’t know how to cure it and the options for treatment were all experimental.

A person with crohn’s often lives in fear of eating the wrong thing, of the sudden moment when crippling pain happens out of thin air. They live in fear of not being able to live the life they want. When you are in constant pain your life simply becomes about managing the pain rather then dreaming.

I was there, I understand this all to well but today I am free, I am free of pain, I am free of meds. When you talk to the medical community they will still tell you their is no cure, but I want to tell you… You can get better. I want to offer hope. My story might be a 1 in a million but I want to tell you, you can be that 1 in a million. My journey will not look like yours, but you can take the principals I used and apply them to your journey. Don’t ever believe them when they say all you can do is manage it, you can get better and I am proof of that.
